FCCT Takes Protest to Planning Board Purple Line Tour

Capital Crescent Trail supporters opposed to the current plan for the Purple Line carried “Save the Trail!” signs and took their cause to members and staff of the Montgomery County Planing Board today during a tour of the proposed route of the light rail system along the trail between Bethesda and Silver Spring.

The tour was arranged by the county to review whether to route a new so-called “trail” through a suspended cage in the tunnel beneath Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda or to re-route it over adjacent surface streets, the Chevy Chase Patch reported.

In either case, the Purple Line will clear-cut 20 acres of trees along the park-like route of the three-mile trail between Bethesda and Silver Spring, and destroy the trail as it’s known today.

The Planning Board will meet to discuss the route on November 17 and the public is invited to testify.
